BOSTON – August 16, 2022 – Boston University, in partnership with edX, a leading global online learning platform from 2U (Nasdaq: TWOU), today opened applications for its new online Master of Public Health degree. The program, accessibly priced at $24,000, will offer high quality public health education from a nationally recognized, top-ten ranked School of Public Health. Classes begin in January 2023.
The BU online MPH program offers a skills-based curriculum, aligned with field and accreditation requirements, focused on health equity that prepares graduates to solve real-world public health problems. The 42 credit, asynchronous program can be completed in 24 months and is ideal for working professionals with at least two years of full-time experience in a wide range of industries.
“A commitment to health equity is core to Boston University School of Public Health,” said Boston University School of Public Health Associate Dean for Education, and Professor of Biostatistics, Lisa Sullivan. “The innovative, BU Online MPH program will make a public health education accessible to learners across the globe.”
Public health degrees have grown in popularity, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Association of Schools & Programs of Public Health, between the spring of 2020 and the spring of 2021, universities saw a 40% increase in applicants for both undergraduate and graduate public health degree programs. Launching an online program, in addition to its in-person program, allows BU to attract a different group of students and create opportunities for people who might not otherwise be able to access this kind of degree.
“As a legacy partner of edX, BU has utilized online education to positively impact the lives of learners by developing high-quality programs that are accessible and affordable,” said Anant Agarwal, edX Founder and 2U Chief Open Education Officer. “In a time where public health education has become increasingly important, BU’s MPH program will help increase access for students for whom an in-person degree may not be part of their education journey at this moment.”
