Cognizant® Skills Accelerator Partners with edX to Expand Train-to-Hire Program

Cognizant today announced that it is partnering with edX to offer a new suite of Java courses aimed at helping jobseekers prepare for technology careers in the U.S.

Cognizant today announced that it is partnering with edX, a leading global online learning platform from 2U (Nasdaq: TWOU), to offer a new suite of Java courses aimed at helping jobseekers prepare for technology careers in the U.S. This collaboration expands Cognizant’s Skill Accelerator program, giving qualified learners the opportunity to pursue careers at Cognizant and meeting clients’ growing demand for software programmers.

The company is partnering with edX, to create five self-paced Java courses for jobseekers, who qualify based on grades, to complete under 90 days. edX will provide access to these courses from its library at no cost to individuals.

Participants who complete the five self-paced Java courses in under 90 days and demonstrate a high aptitude in the training can earn a professional “Introduction to Java Programming” certificate. They will also be shortlisted to interview for full-time roles available at Cognizant or may enroll in a more intensive “train-to-hire” program, such as Cognizant’s 7-week, cohort-based Java Bridge training program, powered by 2U. Cognizant has hired over 100 graduates from 2U boot camp trainings. Courses are focused on core Java programming, JavaScript, cloud computing, HTML5 and CSS3.

Earlier this year, Cognizant introduced Cognizant® Skills Accelerator — a new talent transformation program that is putting U.S. individuals, on an education-to-career pathway. Over the next two years, Cognizant® Skills Accelerator aims to offer programs aimed at U.S. veterans, women returning to the workforce, non-profit beneficiaries, and community college students.

“As the digital economy expands, we will continue to meet the strong demand by our clients for software programming through a pipeline of talented individuals,” said Eric Westphal, Associate Vice President of Workforce Strategy and Operations at Cognizant.  “With edX, we are able to cast a wider net, granting aspiring technology workers the opportunity to skill up and start new careers at Cognizant.”

“At edX, we’re dedicated to creating more opportunities for learners of all backgrounds to access the education they need to pursue rewarding careers that positively impact their lives,” said Lee Rubenstein, Vice President of Partnerships at edX. “The Cognizant® Skills Accelerator program is a powerful example of a hiring initiative that recognizes the quality and value of alternative credentials. Our work together will empower thousands of learners to unlock their full potential.”
