edX Welcomes Qatar University With Courses Designed to Introduce Qatari Culture, Language, and History to the World

In partnership with edX, Qatar University is launching three courses that will bring Qatar's past, present, and future to the world with a global perspective.

We’re excited to welcome Qatar University (QU), Qatar’s primary institution of higher education, to the global edX partner community. QU is committed to advancing education on a global scale by providing high-quality digital learning experiences that are accessible to everyone. QU’s innovative “21st Century Skills” curriculum aims to positively affect students in the domains of language, digital citizenry, and soft skills, which are best suited for highly motivated and academically-inquisitive students looking for an enriching learning experience.

In partnership with edX, QU has launched three courses on the platform designed to introduce Qatari culture, language, and history to a broader international audience:

  • Arabic for non-Arabic Speakers is a doorway to the Arabic language. The course offers an introduction to the basics of the Arabic language required to strike up a conversation and develop communicative skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Qatari History and Heritage brings learners back in time to recall how Qatar has developed its cultures and traditions, starting with pearl diving and maritime trade to becoming a modern state. The course focuses on history, geography, archaeology, and culture.
  • The Human Being in Islam begins with the exploration of humans’ interaction with the world and how it produces civilization from the perspective of Islam. Instructors bring learners along for the journey of discovering the essence of the human being and their purpose in the civilizational act.

All three courses are live and open for enrollment at https://www.edx.org/es/school/qux.

“The agreement we have with edX contributes to fulfilling the mission of the University to advance education and knowledge on a global scale,” said Dr. Hassan Al-Derham, President, Qatar University. “The launch of these MOOCs will also increase the number of people seeking to learn from QU-provided courses and enrich Arabic educational content on the Internet.”

Together with edX, QU seeks to strengthen its presence in the digital education space with courses in areas that are of national priority. The first three courses aim to present Qatar's past, present, and future to the world with a global perspective.
